Konica Minolta Multifunctionals (Printers/Copiers/Scanners)
The RU in 2013 after a European tender, switched to Konica Minolta multifunctionals. The machines are used as copiers, network printers and scanners. The paper output can be automatically stapled, the output of the scanner can be mailed.
For the Faculty of Science this means: From July 1, 2013, new Konica Minolta (KM) multifunctional printers/copiers/scanners (MFP's) will be installed in many places in the FNWI buildings. These machines replace the Ricoh's, that will be removed a few weeks later. That follows from the RU European tender, which showed KM haviong the best offer. We decided to place MFP's in more places, in line with the RU policy to have less walking distance from office rooms to the nearest MFP. Departments will now only seldom need to have their own MFP-services, with their own paper and toner supplies an their own support and maintenance contracts. For the new machines, KM takes care of all that. The new machines also report problems through GSM, so it can happen that problems are resolved without having been reported by an employee or student. Therefore we expect that this can improve efficiency while cutting costs. The placement of individual machines is not definitive: machines that are used heavily can be replaced by a bigger/faster machine, machines that are seldom used can be moved to a different location. Please contact C&CZ with all questions about the new machines.
The MFP's will in time be managed by Peage. Then one can even print sensitive output on shared printers, since one authenticates with campus card and personal pin code and then chooses which printjob to print.
As long as Peage is not available for employees, the MFP's will be managed by C&CZ. The KM's are used as budgetted C&CZ-printers. The functionality thus stays the same initially, one just needs to define the new printers on the PC used.
As long as Peage is not available for employees, every KM gets a PIN code. FNWI employees can get that PIN code from C&CZ, which effectively makes copying free for departments: the faculty pays for all copy costs. In case of misuse, the code will be changed. Students can copy on the Peage MFP near the restaurant, or copy by scanning and printing afterwards. The Ricoh's with Xafax copy unit will be removed on short notice. Students can have C&CZ convert a copy card to printbudget.
The KM's show alle addresses from the Science LDAP addressbook, which makes scanning easier and will result in less addressing errors.
The Konica Minolta helpdesk can be reached by dialing 55955 option 4 for reporting hardware and/or paper problems. They will first ask for the serial number or machine id. That can be found in the list of all multifunctionals. A Konica Minolta support employee is present on campus, so reported problems should be solved relatively quick.
