Wi-Fi Eduroam

The Eduroam wireless network is available in all campus buildings. It is also available in other universities, see

Browse to for all info and configuration manuals.

  • When asked for username and password, this can be one of the following combinations:

Username Password
choice 1 RU-password (as is used for Radboudnet)
choice 2 Science-password (as is used on the Do-It-Yourself site

You can check the IP address by visiting it will show:

To be allowed to access network disks, it is usually sufficient to be connected to the RU campus network, wired or wireless via Eduroam. Some network shares are stored in an extra secure location, these can only be accessed from certain workstations, but also through the Science VPN secure connection. The next steps are needed to install the Science VPN.

Science VPN


  • Press Settings -> Wireless & networks -> More


  • Press VPN


  • Press the plus sign in the upper right corner to add a new VPN:


  • Type something like Science-VPN as name, choose type: PPTP, fill in as server address: and hit Save.



  • Press "Science-VPN"


  • Fill in the Science username and the Science password and press "Connect". You may add after the Science username. N.B.: this is not the mail address, the Science username only contains lowercase characters [a-z] and for temporary guest accounts also the numbers [0-9].


  • After a few seconds the word "Connected" is shown below the "Science-VPN". In the upper right corner a key can be seen, showing that the VPN is active.


  • If you want to check your connection, you can do that by pointing your browser to This will show that you have an IP number from the Science-VPN range: 131.174.224.NNN, with hostname


  • By pressing the line with Science-VPN or the key in the upper right corner, a window appears with the option to drop the VPN connection.



The RU VPN can be used with an Android client.
